How to choose your ideal co working space.

The first Coworking space, was launched in San Francisco in 2005 and since then the concept has gone from a trend to the new normal. Currently there are approximately 35000 coworking spaces around the world and the number continues to grow.

You might feel a little overwhelmed when deciding which coworking space to choose. That’s why we have put together a little list for what you need to look out for when you visit one.

Convenience is something most look for when selecting their ideal co working space.

  • You need to choose a location that works for your lifestyle.
  • If you don’t take your car to work everyday, you should choose a coworking space that is in an area with reliable public transport systems.
  • Are there places to go for lunch or for drinks after work? Again, choose an area that suits your after hour hobbies not just your work life.
  • Are there any activities you can do close by?
  • Is the area safe?

Nowadays, 99% of people work on laptops or computers, and when selecting a coworking space you should;

  • Ask about their WIFI connection and check if there is a daily cap. You want to be sure it can support the work you have to do.
  • Ask about onsite IT support.
  • Ask about backup generators in case of a power failure.

Ease of use

One of the reasons to work from a coworking space, is to be able to cut out time spent on things that are not your actual work, such as onboarding new members, setting up a board room for a meeting or cleaning the office.

Coworking spaces that assist with these requirements will allow you to focus on growing your business all day long.

  • Are there reception services to assist with welcoming guests, signing for your packages and arranging couriers?
  • How will your new employees be added into the system? Is it an efficient process?

Community and Vibe

When you first walk into the space, what are your first impressions?

Pay attention to your first impression of the co-working space because this will be your client’s experience too…

  • Do you feel welcome?
  • Are you greeted warmly?
  • What are the first things you see?
  • Is there music playing?

Community events are also a huge advantage because not only does it give you an opportunity to meet people but also because you have a varied hub of proffesional experience and expertise that you are able to learn from whilst building your business.
